Precision Ink Drop Placement
Mimaki designed an optimum waveform enabling the print head to jet each ink color at the appropriate jetting angle without losing precise ink droplet circularity.


Anti-Banding Technology
Variable drop printing combined with MAPS3 (Mimaki Advanced Pass System 3) technology ensures precise and accurate print quality throughout the printing process, greatly reducing the appearance of banding and resulting in a smoother image.

Expanded Eco Solvent Ink Set
The SS21 eco solvent ink set for the JV150 includes not only Light Magenta and Light Cyan, but Light Black for deeper dimensional monochromatic and grayscale imaging. The addition of Orange ink widens the color gamut for better accuracy in the color reproduction of food and solid Pantone® colors.


Uninterrupted Ink Supply System (UISS)
When printing in CMYK, JV150 Series printers can be configured with two ink cartridges per color. Utilizing the UISS (Uninterrupted Ink Supply System) when one cartridge is emptied, the printer automatically switches to the full cartridge to deliver continuous imaging.

How to Calibrate Your Large Format Printer to Get Correct Color?


Have you ever printed a graphic that looked "Christmas" red and green on screen but when you printed it, you ended up with purple and lime-yellow? The way images look on screen differs from the way they look in print, even though they aren't always so dramatic. Calibrating your monitor provides a screen display that simulates what prints on paper. Calibrating your large format printer ensures that what you print is consistent with what you see on screen. The two go hand in hand.

 Why Colors Look Different
There are many reasons why monitor displays and printed output are dissimilar including:

Monitors use additive RGB color, while printing uses subtractive CMYK pigments. Each method is a different way of reproducing color.
The human eye can distinguish more colors than inks can print.
In print, ink layering and overlapping cause subtle shifts in color not found in the individual pixels that make up a screen image. On screen, a red circle may overlap a yellow circle cleanly. In print, you may see orange where the overlap occurs.
Printed images don't have the same range, saturation, and contrast as a monitor, which makes the colors typically darker and less vibrant than on screen. Paper texture and brightness also affect—and change—a printed image.

How to Calibrate
The first step in printer calibration is to calibrate your monitor. Then, make sure you use the correct printer driver for your printer. Within the printer driver are controls for fine-tuning the overall appearance of color from your printer. Depending on your needs, this may be sufficient to get the color you want.

If you want to move beyond the basics of color calibration, you have two general methods to select from: visual and mechanical. The more expensive and accurate option is to use a hardware device that can read the output from your printer and make adjustments as necessary. For most users, visual calibration or the use of generic color profiles for your hardware is adequate.


Basic Visual Calibration
Using test images with a wide range of tonal values that ideally consist of a number of color bars, photographs, and blocks of colors, you can visually match the screen and print colors. You display and print a test image and then compare and adjust grayscale and color output in the controls provided for your printer.

You can obtain digital test images from the web and from some software or hardware manufacturers. Whether you are calibrating visually or with color management software, target images provide a range of color and grayscale targets for calibrating monitors, printers, scanners, and digital cameras. You can find free and commercial targets and other test images.

Color Calibration With ICC Profiles
ICC profiles provide a way to ensure consistent color across all your devices. Color and print professionals use files that are specific to each device on the system and contain information about how that device produces color. They create separate profiles based on various combinations of ink and paper—factors that affect the appearance of the printed material. The stock or default profiles for your printer model that come with your software, from your wide format printer manufacturer, or from other websites, are often adequate for most nonprofessional printing situations.


For precise color management needs, you can use color management software to develop custom ICC profiles for any device. Additionally, some online sources can create custom profiles for you. One such vendor is Chromix. ICC profiles are available for printers, monitors, scanners, digital cameras, and other equipment.

Color professionals use Color Management Systems, which include tools for calibrating monitors, scanners, printers, and digital cameras so they all "speak the same color." These tools often include a variety of generic profiles as well as the means to customize profiles for any of your devices.

Tips for the Importance of Dye Sublimation Printers in Your Business

What is Dye Sublimation Printing?
It’s the chemistry behind dye sublimation that makes it the correct technique for printing on polyester and polyester resin coated products. Using a wide-format inkjet printer, dye-sub inks are printed on a special transfer paper. From there, the ink is heat transferred from the paper onto a fabric by using a heat press. The ink becomes a gas (hence the term “sublimation”) and enters the polyester fibers.

Compared to inkjet printing on other material like paper or vinyl, dye sublimation is a more involved process since it involves multiple steps. But don’t worry. With the right knowledge, dye-sublimation can be an enjoyable and profitable business. Here’s what you need to know to get started:

 You’ll Need to Use a Specific Type of Ink
When you’re transferring your graphics from paper to fabric, the ink needs to convert from a solid state to a gas. Since the chemical process is very specific for dye sublimation, you’ll need to use a specific type of ink known as disperse dyes (commonly referred to as “dye-sub inks”).

These dyes are able to go from a solid state to a gaseous state in high temperatures and will easily bond to polyester fabrics.

The color gamut of disperse dyes is incredibly vibrant. And, some brands like Mimaki have introduced fluorescent inks that can be used to push the color gamut even further!

Since disperse dyes are permanently bonded to your finished products, the result is long-lasting graphics that are fully washable.

You’ll Need a Special Dye Sublimation Printer
While similar to other wide format printers, dye sublimation printers are specific to the dye-sub application. They use disperse dyes which are dedicated to print on transfer paper only.

Flatbed Press: If you’re transferring onto solid objects or smaller sample fabrics, a flatbed press is your best bet. Plus, they are great for printing poly t-shirts including those “all-over” designs.
Calender Press: These presses use oil or electrically heated drums for heat transfer and are intended for apparel, décor and soft signage. Calender presses are best for high-volume printing.
Cutting & Sewing
