What make’s the paper superior are two important facts. First, sublimation inks dry very quickly on paper. This 

prevents any ink “spread” during printing. Second, is the very controlled way the ink releases from the paper when 

heated.

This is very important, so here is more detail. The sizes of the ink drops continue to get smaller in modern inkjet 

printers. This is great because fine art detail is possible. This is also known as "Dot Gain" in the printing industry.

However, the ink is not going to stay on the paper. When heated, it is going to turn into a gas, leave the paper and go

 into the sublimated item. If that travel is not controlled, then an effect called posterization occurs.

Posterization is when shades of a similar color blend and you lose detail. An easy example is a picture of a pile of

 twigs. If the picture sublimates correctly, you will still see a pile of twigs. If it posterizes, you will see a pile of brown 

stuff. No detail.

The importance of top quality sublimation paper cannot be overstated. We even have customers that use the other 

major brand of sublimation ink, use our TruePix HD paper because of the superior quality. Of course, you might 

wonder why they don’t also use sublimation ink.

It’s simple. By choice or chance, they began with the other ink. Paper can be switched. An entire sublimation ink 

system is expensive to throw away (the inks cannot be mixed) and many can’t afford that, even if they want to switch.

Christmas present. In my opinion, the DIY transfer present will be popular and unforgettable. So,

today I will tell you how to transfer your postcard with heat transfer paper when the christamas

day coming.

Materials you may need:

- gel medium

- smooth plywood, 1/4 inch thick

- heat transfer paper

- high resolution, toner-printed image/photo

- foam brush

- spray bottle filled with water

- cotton rag, optional (saves your fingers a bit during the transfer)

Instructions:

1. Cut the plywood down to your desired sizes. For reference, the smallest ‘post card’ size

pictured is 3 1/2″ x 5″ and the largest letter size is 6 1/8″ x 11 1/2″.Prep the printed images b

y trimming down the heat transfer  paper.

2. Use the foam brush to spread an even layer of gel medium on the surface of the wood. Bare

spots or globs will cause problems with the transfer. Lightly spritz the printed side of the image

and lay it down on the gel-medium-covered surface. Align the image to the edges of the post card.

3. Smooth out the printed image using your finger, pressing from the center to the edges. The

heat transfer paper is damp which makes it easier to tear — so be careful. Allow the transfer

paper and post card to dry completely.

4. When it is dry, use the spray bottle to wet the transfer paper surface until the image is visible.

Carefully begin to remove the transfer paper. I used my fingers, and I used a damp rag to remove

the transfer paper.

5. After you’ve removed as much as you can, let it dry a little. As it dries, the white paper will be

more visible. Repeat until you are satisfied with the look. When it’s finished, top it with a clear

coat if you’d like.

If you would like to print on light colored fabric, you have to use the heat transfer paper and you cannot print the white,

 where the heat transfer paper is transparent. Where there is white in design, you can see the light color of the fabric.

 You cannot wash the fabric easily which has been printed with inkjet transfer paper. If you would like the fabric which 

is printed by the heat transfer paper to last longer, you will have to follow the washing instruction very carefully.

Dye sublimation heat transfer paper

The other heat transfer paper which is used for the printing on the light or white colored paper is the dye sublimation

 heat transfer paper. The process of the dye sublimation heat transfer paper is as follows –

For using this technology, the substrate of the material must be a mix of the polyester and cotton in which the 

percentage of the polyester should be at 50%. You can use the substrates of nylon and microfiber also. This 

process uses the sublimation ink with the dye sublimation printer. The process is effective in the sense that the 

printer ink directly becomes gas with becoming the liquid. 

So, the process becomes time-effective as it does not need time for drying. You can use any material which has 

polyester coating for this process for printing. You can do the printing on various items like T-shirts, bags and other

 items using this process as the finishing of the item is excellent. The cost of printing is also very less, so it is very

 cost effective.
