Is There A Big Gaps Between Printing Effects of Inkjet Printer's Six Colors and Four Colors?


Is there a big gaps between printing effects of inkjet printer's six colors and four colors? The gap is still there, but it is getting smaller and smaller, and the most critical parameter is the droplet size.

 The 6-color ink was originally developed to solve the graininess. The limit perception ability of the human eye to the ink drop is about 0.8~0.9PL, and it is basically no ink point print below 2PL.


The first 6-color photo printer was EPSON Photo700. At that time, the technology was able to achieve 7PL ink droplets. The size of the ink droplets on the photo paper was very strong, so EPSON increased the graininess of the photo. Light cyan and light magenta, the ink concentration is about 30% of the normal concentration, so that the human eye can see the effect similar to 2PL ink drops. The 2PL ink drops, at the time, almost no ink point printing. Therefore, this has become the standard for Epson to divide Photo and C series.


In 2007, EPSON launched the photo printer Photo 20, which is just a 4-color inkjet printer, but since the minimum ink drop reached the 2PL standard, EPSON also classified it as the Photo series. Other models, whether it is the early COLOR/C series, or the mid-term ME series, or the current L series, even if some models can reach 5760*1440dpi, still can not be divided into the Photo series, the biggest reason is Ink drops ≥ 3PL. But in fact, those models of 3PL are not far from 2PL, so the effect of photo printing is already very good, at least the comprehensive image quality has surpassed the level of the first generation Photo700. Therefore, if the graininess of the photo is not particularly harsh, EPSON's four-color machine (3PL ink drops) is now enough for home photo printing.


Then, CANON, CANON just started the same way as EPSON, and increased the light color to reduce the graininess. But this situation ended in the era of IP4200. The reason is that the minimum ink droplets of the IP4200 have reached 1PL, and it is absolutely unnecessary to use light ink. Therefore, after this, Canon also divided all printers with a minimum ink drop of 1PL into photo grades.



Looking at HP again, HP also started the EPSON route. Until the launch of the 818 ink cartridge, this is HP's first ink cartridge that can use double ink drop technology. The smallest 1.5PL ink droplet also announced the end of HP's six-color printer. . Coupled with the shrinking market in the desktop printing industry, HP even cut off all of the Photosmart series of printers, all of which were handed over to the four-color machine.


Comprehensive status quo: The EPSON six-color machine has a minimum of 1.5PL ink drops, plus two light colors. In theory, the human eye can achieve the effect of 0.45PL, which is far less than the naked eye limit, so that the true ink-free output can be achieved. The effect is that only one of all branded wide format inkjet printers can do it. This is one of the reasons why photo printing prefers EPSON.

How to Store and Keep Your Dye Sublimation Ink with Good Colors?


As we Know that sublimation ink is an important role in digital sublimation printing. Knowing how to store it properly is vital if you want it to last longer and reduce overheads. Furthermore, proper storage of dye sublimation ink also ensures that the product doesn’t lose its properties during storage, which can otherwise affect the print quality.

 If you are used to buying dye sublimation ink in bulk, but don’t know how to store them – except the standard: keep your ink products in original packaging–the following information should serve you well…

Store your stock away from sunlight
Most dye sublimation inks are water based. As such, if you store them in sunlight, the heat can cause the water to evaporate, making the ink more viscous. Using thick sublimation inks can damage your printer head nozzles, while the print quality is also likely to get affected.


Moreover, UV energies carried by sunlight can also cause chemical decomposition of the ink material. This can cause ink to fade in color, and you’ll have to get your stock replaced prematurely.

Sublimation inks should always be kept in air tight containers
It’s strongly advised that you keep sublimation inks in air tight containers. If exposed to air, dye sublimation ink can dry, which can make them inappropriate for use.


Furthermore, believe it or not, but exposure to air can also cause certain bacteria to grow in your dye sublimation ink. These bacteria can naturally degrade the ink material.

It’s a good idea to retain original packaging and using it when storing your dye sublimation ink, but if you have mistakenly discarded it, you can store the ink in air tight plastic bottles. These bottles are easily available at local stores.


Keep the batches separate—don’t mix them!
Often to save space, some people mix old sublimation ink (of course, of same color) with a new batch and store them in the same bottle. This practice must be avoided.

Firstly because, the old ink may be nearing its expiration date and as such mixing it with a new ink batch can reduce the product’s shelf life.


Secondly, if an old batch is contaminated with air bubbles or bacteria, mixing it with the new batch of ink can also contaminate the other product.

Exercise proper storage of dye sublimation ink – it would allow you to use them for longer, while maintaining high quality prints.
