Inkjet Sublimation Transfer Paper for Digital Textile Printing

If you thoroughly understand inkjet sublimation, you may want to skip to the next page. If you don't know much about it, this page will help you learn what it will and won't do.

The basic inkjet dye sublimation process uses a heat reactive sublimation dye, dissolved in a liquid, to print graphics and text onto special inkjet paper. This is called a dye sub transfer. The dye sublimation transfer paper and a sublimatable item are then placed into a heat press When the heating cycle is completed, the image on the paper has been transferred into the coating on the item and has actually become embeded into the coating. Run your finger across the surface of sublimation and you will feel nothing.

In the case of polyester, satin and some other synthetic fibers, the sublimation dye embeds into the fibers and becomes part of the fabric. Again, nothing is felt!

The reason for this is that sublimation is always done on a polyester, polymer, or polymer coated item. At high temperatures, the solid dyes in the print converts into a gas without becoming a liquid. The high temperature also opens the pores of the polymer and allows the gas to enter. When the item is removed from the heat, the temperature drops, the pores close and the gas reverts to a solid state. It has now become a part of the polymer. 

Done correctly, it cannot be washed out or come off, unless the actual fibers or coating is damaged or re-heated. 

Note - Sunlight can re-activate the proccess so over-coating hard items will give them a longer life.

This is why Inkjet sublimation paper can't be done on natural materials, like 100% cotton. Natural fibers and non-coated materials have no "pores" to open and so the dye just sits on top of the fabric. Heat transfers are the best way to imprint cotton and cotton-blend fabrics.

Process of Sublimation Transfer Paper for Textile Printing

Step 1.

Dye Sublimation refers to solid dye particles that are changed into gas using heat and pressure, which then bond with any polymers present and change back into a solid.

 

Step 2.

The Basic Dye Sublimation Process uses special heat sensitive dyes to print grahics and text onto special transfer  paper. The paper is then placed on a Blank Sublimation product and both are placed in aheat press.

Step 3.

When the heating cycle is complete, the image on the heat transfer paper has been transferred to the item and has actually reformed into or underneath the coated surface. Run your finger across the surface of a sublimated photo mug, plare or any coated product and you will feel nothing. It is as smooth as anything.

 

Step 4.

The reason for this is that sublimation is always done on polyester, polymer - coated items. At high temperatures, the solid dye converts into a gas without ever becoming a liquid. The same high temperature opens the pores of the polymer and allows the gas to enter. When the temperature drops, the pores close and the gas reverts to a solid state. It has now become part of the polymer.

Step 5.

This is why Dye Sublimation can't be done on natural materials such as 100% cotton or natural fibres and non coated materials which have no " pores " to open. Unless a polymer coated paper is used.

When printing sport fabric banner,you will need sublimation transfer paper,it is place on the fabric and together they are slowly fed through heated rollers. Here is where this process is magic. As the cloth material and paper go through the heated rollers at around 400°F, the ink on the transfer paper is converted into a gaseous state. Simultaneously, the pores in the polyester or other petro-based fabric open to allow the gas to penetrate the cellular structure of the cloth, and as the fabric cools on the back end of the rollers, the fabric is infused with a gorgeous continuous tone print, similar to photo reproduction done on photo paper.

In the whold,there are many ways of printing fabric banner,but i think dye sublimation printed fabric banner is our first choice.I personally think that dye sublimation printing will give you the purest reproduction of your artwork and photography of any reproduction method currently available. There are also fabrics that appear to be painted that can be printed digitally as well, but I still think this method will give you the most photographic reproduction of any available printing method in the 21st century so far.

If you would like to print on light colored fabric, you have to use the heat transfer paper and you cannot print the white,

 where the heat transfer paper is transparent. Where there is white in design, you can see the light color of the fabric.

 You cannot wash the fabric easily which has been printed with inkjet transfer paper. If you would like the fabric which 

is printed by the heat transfer paper to last longer, you will have to follow the washing instruction very carefully.

Dye sublimation heat transfer paper

The other heat transfer paper which is used for the printing on the light or white colored paper is the dye sublimation

 heat transfer paper. The process of the dye sublimation heat transfer paper is as follows –

For using this technology, the substrate of the material must be a mix of the polyester and cotton in which the 

percentage of the polyester should be at 50%. You can use the substrates of nylon and microfiber also. This 

process uses the sublimation ink with the dye sublimation printer. The process is effective in the sense that the 

printer ink directly becomes gas with becoming the liquid. 

So, the process becomes time-effective as it does not need time for drying. You can use any material which has 

polyester coating for this process for printing. You can do the printing on various items like T-shirts, bags and other

 items using this process as the finishing of the item is excellent. The cost of printing is also very less, so it is very

 cost effective.
